‘Win a Carnival Cruise’ Facebook Survey Scam

According to a post currently being distributed across Facebook, you can win tickets for a Carnival Cruise just by sharing the post and then clicking a link that supposedly opens a Carnival Cruise website where you can enter. The message also suggests that you like the associated Facebook Page to receive updates and winner notifications.

However, the post is not associated with Carnival Cruise Lines and those who participate have no chance whatsoever of winning cruse tickets. The message is a typical Facebook survey scam.

If you share the post as instructed, you will, in fact, be exposing all of your friends to the same fraudulent material and spamming on behalf of the scammers.

And, if you click the link, you may be tricked into supplying your personal information on dodgy ‘survey’ websites.   The sites that you will be redirected to may vary depending on where you live.

Some will ask you to provide your mobile phone number, ostensibly as a means of entering a competition to win further prizes. However, by supplying your phone number, you are actually subscribing to an absurdly expensive SMS ‘service’ that will charge you several dollars for every pointless text message they send you.

Alternatively, the site you are taken to may ask you to supply your name, email address, home address, and phone numbers as a means of participating in an online survey and entering to win prizes.  However, fine print on the page will explain that, by entering, you are giving permission for your details to be shared with ‘site-sponsors’ and third-party marketing groups. Thus, after entering, you will soon begin receiving unwanted and annoying phone calls, emails, and surface letters from companies trying to sell various products and services.

But, no matter how many surveys you complete or what information you supply, you will never get the chance to win the promised cruise tickets, which never existed in the first place.

Scams like this continue to be very common on Facebook.  Be wary of any post or Page that promises expensive prizes such as cruises, airline tickets, or luxury cars just for liking and sharing and participating in online surveys.
