A post that is being shared widely across Facebook claims that US department store chain Kohl’s is giving away $150 off coupons to celebrate Black Friday.
The post asks you to like, share, and comment “done” and promises that your free Kohl’s coupon will be sent to your Facebook inbox “right away”.
However, the supposed giveaway is a scam. The post has no connection to Kohl’s and you will never receive any valid coupons no matter how much sharing, liking, and commenting that you do. Don’t be fooled into participating “just in case“.
And, there is no mention of the supposed coupon giveaway on the official Kohl’s Facebook Page.
Unusually for such scam posts, this version does not lead back to the original scam Facebook Page or profile. The examples I have seen so far simply trick users into sharing and commenting on posts shared by previous victims. Thus, they are not effectively promoting a scam profile or collecting likes for a bogus Facebook Page like more typical like-farming scams.
The scammers may be intending to make direct contact with victims who have shared the fake posts and try to involve them in further scams. At the time of writing, I have not received the inbox message that was supposed to be sent after sharing and commenting.
If you receive one of these messages, do not share, like, or comment on it. And let the person who posted it know that the message is a scam that is in no way associated with Kohl’s. To reiterate, even if you do share, like, and comment as requested, no valid Kohl’s coupon will ever be sent to you.
Here’s what the scam post looks like:
