Nonsense – ‘McDonalds Using Human Meat’

by Brett M. Christensen

Outline:
Circulating report claims that human meat has been discovered in McDonald’s meat factories in the United States. The report further claims that the meat comes from children.

Brief Analysis:
In spite of its obvious absurdity, this report continues to generate queries to Hoax-Slayer. And at least a few wide-eyed users apparently believe it. But of course, the claims in the report are utter nonsense. It originates from the fake news website Huzlers.com. Huzlers bills itself as satirical and nothing published on the site is factual.

Detailed Analysis:
According to a report that is currently circulating via social media and blog posts, investigators have discovered human meat in McDonald’s ‘meat factories’ across the United States. And, claims the report, the meat comes from children. The report includes a video suggesting that the grizzly discovery may explain where many missing children end up.

A number of people have contacted Hoax-Slayer to ask if the claims were true. And apparently, at least a few people actually believe the claims.

But, of course, the claims are utter nonsense. No such discovery has been made.  Although it may look like a news article in its original context, the report is pure fiction.  It originates from the fake news website Huzlers.com. Huzlers fancies itself as satirical and nothing published on the site is true.  It includes the following disclaimer at the bottom of its articles:

Huzlers.com is a combination of real shocking news and satire news to keep its visitors in a state of disbelief.

And, as you would expect, there are no credible news stories that back up the McDonald’s human meat claims. Of course, if such a discovery were true, the story would be a huge news event all over the world. And all McDonald’s stores would have been closed down by now.

Huzlers is responsible for several other viral ‘satirical’ reports that have circulated online. In a previous report, it falsely claimed that the creator of the game Flappy Bird had committed suicide. In another offering, it wrongly stated that the NFL was investigating the 2014 Super Bowl game because it was thought to be rigged. While good satire can be entertaining and can play a valuable role, this sort of nonsense just adds to the dross that is already cluttering the interwebs.

The ‘human meat story’ is in especially poor taste in that the attached video actually contains news footage discussing real missing children. The video implies that these missing children may have been killed and eaten. It is amazingly callous and self-serving to make such implication simply to promote a ridiculous ‘humor’ piece.

Importance Notice

After considerable thought and with an ache in my heart, I have decided that the time has come to close down the Hoax-Slayer website.

These days, the site does not generate enough revenue to cover expenses, and I do not have the financial resources to sustain it going forward.

Moreover, I now work long hours in a full-time and physically taxing job, so maintaining and managing the website and publishing new material has become difficult for me.

And finally, after 18 years of writing about scams and hoaxes, I feel that it is time for me to take my fingers off the keyboard and focus on other projects and pastimes.

When I first started Hoax-Slayer, I never dreamed that I would still be working on the project all these years later or that it would become such an important part of my life. It's been a fantastic and engaging experience and one that I will always treasure.

I hope that my work over the years has helped to make the Internet a little safer and thwarted the activities of at least a few scammers and malicious pranksters.

A Big Thank You

I would also like to thank all of those wonderful people who have supported the project by sharing information from the site, contributing examples of scams and hoaxes, offering suggestions, donating funds, or helping behind the scenes.

I would especially like to thank David White for his tireless contribution to the Hoax-Slayer Facebook Page over many years. David's support has been invaluable, and I can not thank him enough.

Closing Date

Hoax-Slayer will still be around for a few weeks while I wind things down. The site will go offline on May 31, 2021. While I will not be publishing any new posts, you can still access existing material on the site until the date of closure.

Thank you, one and all!
