Circulating message claims that June 2012 will feature 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays, a configuration that occurs only once every 823 years.
The claims in the message are utter nonsense. Firstly, the calendar included in the message is not for June 2012, or any other June. The month of June has 30 days, not 31. And secondly, any month that has 31 days will have three consecutive days that occur five times in the month. Such combinations are commonplace and occur each and every year, certainly not just once in 823 years as claimed.
Subject: Fwd: FW: Calendar for June 2012
THIS IS THE ONLY TIME WE WILL SEE AND LIVE THIS EVENT
This year, June has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens once every 823 years. This is called money bags. So, forward this to your friends and money will arrive within 4 days. Based on Chinese Feng Shui. The one who does not forward…..will be without money.
According to this message, which circulates via email and social media posts, June 2012 will feature 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays, a combination of days that occur only once every 823 years. The message claims that recipients who pass on the information to others will receive money in four days, “based on Chinese Feng Shui”.
However, the claims in the message are complete hogwash. As such silly hoax messages go, this one is doubly flawed.
Firstly, the supposed June 2012 calendar is not actually for June at all. June 2012 – as with June every year – has 30 days, not 31 as shown in the message. And, as the following screenshot reveals, June 2012 does not have 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays:
Clearly, the message includes the calendar for another month.
Secondly, there is nothing even remotely unusual about months that have such “interesting” combinations of days. In fact, any month that has 31 days will have three consecutive days that occur five times in the month. Such combinations are commonplace and occur, not once in 823 years, but each and every year.
While June – in any year – will never have 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays, such a combination will actually occur in the month of March 2013:
And, as mentioned above, July 2011 also had such a combination of days. As have – and will – many other months.
