Fans of the British dating reality show Love Island should keep an eye out for Facebook scam posts offering the chance to win holidays and other show related prizes.
Several fake Love Island Facebook Pages have recently appeared on the network. These pages use the words “Love Island” in their names but they are not associated with the genuine Love Island Facebook Page, which features Facebook’s blue “verified” icon to prove its authenticity.
Posts on the bogus Pages offer you the chance to win island holidays along with meetings with the show’s stars. The posts ask you to like and share and then click a Sign Up button to get your prize entry.
However, the promised prizes do not exist. The Sign Up buttons open suspect third-party websites that offer the chance to win further prizes in exchange for providing your name and contact details. Fine print on the websites explains that, by participating, you are agreeing to share your personal information with various sponsors and marketing companies.
So, if you go ahead, you will soon be inundated with unwanted and annoying emails, phone calls, text messages, and letters peddling a range of products and services that you most likely neither want nor need.
And no matter how many offers you complete, you will never get the chance to enter the promised Love Island holiday prize draw, which was never real to begin with.
