by Brett M. Christensen

According to this email, which was supposedly sent by Apple, your account has expired and you can read more information in an attached PDF.

However, the email is not from Apple.  It is a phishing scam designed to steal your personal and financial information.

Here’s what the scam email looks like:

Then, if you click the “Update Account” button, a fraudulent website will load in your browser.  The website closely resembles the genuine Apple login page:

After you have entered your Apple ID on the fake page, the following message will appear:

If you click the “Unlock Account” link, the following form will load:

The crooks can use the information to hijack your Apple account, conduct fraudulent transactions with your credit card, and steal your identity.

Apple phishing scams like this one continue to be very common and take many forms. If you receive one, do not click any links or open any attachments that it contains.

The Apple website includes information about identifying and reporting these phishing emails.
