Adam Sandler Targeted in Yet Another Death Hoax

by Brett M. Christensen

Outline:
Circulating R.I.P Twitter and Facebook posts claim that actor Adam Sandler has died.  A similar 2016 version featured a message that included an ‘R.I.P Adam Sandler’ graphic depicting the star.

Brief Analysis:
The claims in the messages are untrue. Adam Sandler is NOT dead. These posts are just the latest in a series of nasty hoaxes that have falsely claimed that the actor has died.

Detailed Analysis:
According to a message that is making its way around the Internet via Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites,  actor Adam Sandler has died.

But, the good news is that Adam Sandler is NOT dead. The star is alive and well. There are no credible news reports that support the death claims. Nor is there any confirmation of his supposed passing on Adam’s official social media feeds.

In fact, the circulating R.I.P. messages are just the latest versions of a series of fake death messages that have plagued Adam over the last several years. One nasty 2015 version falsely claimed that the star had committed suicide. A 2013 variant falsely claimed that he had died in a snowboarding accident. An even earlier version of the death hoax simply bemoaned the star’s passing but gave no indication of what caused his supposed demise.

And, of course, Adam Sandler is not the only celebrity that has been targeted in such death hoaxes. A number of other celebrities have also ‘died’ multiple times online.

Some of these hoaxes are just poor taste pranks.  Some seem to arise out of genuine misunderstandings. Others are more sinister and try to trick people into downloading malware or divulging their personal information via suspect survey websites.

It is wise to verify any celebrity death stories that come your way via social media or email before you share the information with others. If a celebrity or high profile public figure does die, his or her death will always be widely covered by the mainstream news media. Thus, a quick search via a news portal such as Google News will usually reveal if a circulating celebrity death report is true.
