“52 Camper Car Giveaway” Scam Hitting Facebook

by Brett M. Christensen

Various Facebook Pages are featuring a post that claims that you can win one of 52 camper cars just by sharing the post and liking the Facebook Page it was published on. Supposedly, the campers are being given away free because they have been used as stock and therefore can’t be sold.

The claims in the post are lies. No amount of liking and sharing will give you the chance to win one of the pictured vehicles. No camper cars are being given away. And, the claim that any company would simply give away 52 luxury RVs worth many thousands of dollars each just because the vehicles had been used as display stock is, of course, utter nonsense.

In fact, the ‘camper car giveaway” posts are scams designed to accumulate large numbers of Facebook likes as quickly as possible. After posting such a scam giveaway message, the Facebook Page will gain a great many new likes. The Page may post further scam messages that try to trick people into submitting their personal information on suspect “survey” websites. Or it may post messages promoting its desired products or services. But, whatever it posts will likely reach a considerably large number of potential victims thanks to the new page likes collected during the scam giveaway campaign.

Alternatively, the fraudulent Facebook Pages may be sold on the black market to other scammers.

Facebook scams like this one continue to be very common.
