R.I.P. Adam Sandler Hoax

Adam Sandler Dead Twitter Post

Detailed Analysis:
According to a message that is making its way around the Internet via Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites, much loved actor Adam Sandler has died. The message comprises a graphic featuring a photograph of Adam along with the words ‘R.I.P Adam Sandler 1966-2016 (49’). Some versions of the message also claim that the star ‘is died accidentally’, although they don’t specify what sort of accident occurred.

But, the good news is that Adam Sandler is NOT dead. The star is alive and well. There are no credible news reports that support the death claims. Nor is there any confirmation of his supposed passing on Adam’s official social media feeds.

In fact, the circulating R.I.P. message is just the latests version of a series of fake death messages that have plagued Adam over the last several years. One nasty 2015 version falsely claimed that the star had committed suicide. A 2013 variant falsely claimed that he had died in a snowboarding accident. An even earlier version of the death hoax simply bemoaned the star’s passing but gave no indication of what caused his supposed demise.

And, of course, Adam Sandler is not the only celebrity that has been targeted in such death hoaxes. A number of other celebrities have also ‘died’ multiple times online.

Some of these hoaxes are just poor taste pranks.  Some seem to arise out of genuine misunderstandings. Other are more sinister and try to trick people into downloading malware or divulging their personal information via suspect survey websites.

It is wise to verify any celebrity death stories that come your way via social media or email before you share the information with others. If a celebrity or high profile public figure does die, his or her death will always be widely covered by the mainstream news media. Thus, a quick search via a news portal such as Google News will usually reveal if a circulating celebrity death report is true.
