Warnings about potentially dangerous Easter egg toys are currently circulating online. The warnings are valid and parents should take them seriously. Target in the United States has recalled a range of water-absorbing Easter and Dino toys because they pose a potential hazard to children.
A post about the recall on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website notes:
If the small toy is ingested, it can expand inside a child’s body and cause intestinal obstructions, resulting in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration and could be life threatening. Surgery is required to remove the toy from the body, if ingested. Medical professionals and parents should be aware that there is a possibility that the toys might not show up on an x-ray.
Consumers are advised to take these toys away from their children immediately. The toys can be returned to any US Target store for a full refund.
Thankfully, at the time of writing, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries caused by the toys.
